I can't stay away

Dear bloggers,

Yesterday, I felt so sure I wanted to say good bye. Perhaps I spoke so hastily but I truly don't want the site to end. Perhaps I won't post as often but I still want to read what you all have to say and visit your blogs so I will still be a presence in the blog world. I can't stay away from blogging and I can't stay away from all of you.

I look forward to reading your insightful words as always...I suppose that's what I get for hastily calling it quits. At last I can't. Until next time : )

Good bye

Dear bloggers, it is difficult to write this but Write in Motion has taken its course. It must come to an end. The approaching New Year has made me realize that one must come to face its own realities. I began this blog because I so desperately needed a creative outlet. And I've always been a dreamer of big things. In my mind, I envisioned Write in Motion as being more than it materialized to be. I think being a dreamer is a flaw because it sets you up for disappointment. The pen has gone dry and the dreaming must come to an end. But I am quite thankful to the amazing blogging community out there who are doing so much and making a true mark. I am truly amazed by all of you. Thank you to everyone who has been kind enough to read or visit my site. Your words were the only thing that kept me going until now. I must construct a life anew and rethink what is to come in 2010. Best wishes to all of you.

Creative (O.S.I.)

This week's O.S.I. prompt uses the word creative. Here is my take on the prompt.

Creative canopy
Bed of
Expression
Possession
Confessions
Creative contours
Expunged on page
On canvas
Sculpted as beings
Or buildings
Feelings
Frothing amidst
The rays of
Abstraction
For an audience
Of one
Or a million
Creative chameleon
Reveal themselves
In the eyes
Of the artist's
Invisible canopy
To the world

Lost Talent (The AMA's)

Last night, I watched the AMA's and was thoroughly disappointed. With the few exceptions of Janet Jackson opening the show, Jay-Z and Alicia Key's New York song, and the much anticipated return of Whitney Houston, this show was a disastrous disappointment and a waste of 3 hours. After watching the show, the impression it gave me was American music lacks talent. Most performances were erotic displays, without any substance, and drowned out by club beats. As an artist, your music should be as creatively expressive and original as possible. You can't say that about half of the artists today. Perhaps the decaying music industry extends beyond artists to songwriters and producers. Yet, it is difficult to imagine music being reduced to these standards when just a couple of decades ago, we had the likes of Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince. These artists literally put their hearts and souls into each performance and could belt out a tune. Perhaps I'm a musical snob, but today's artists have a lot to learn.

Generations of the
Musically inclined
Have receded and eroded
Their rhythmic minds
Notes hollow and empty
Inspiration and perspiration
Neglected and negated
Reservoirs of talent
Bereft in this generation
Of gyrations and palpitations
Bare skin and sex
Sells records
On purring radios
But lacks substantive
Meaning preceding
Generations of old

Simply Snickers: Nonet

This week's Simply Snicker's Challenge uses the words vain (or vane), veil (or vail), and very.

I chose a very unique and creative poetic style called Nonet. This poetic form consists of 9 Lines (9 syllables) which gradually taper off to one syllable. If you are interested, please give it a go!! Hope you enjoy. The accompany portrait is A Young Woman and Her Little Boy by Agnolo Bronzino.

Portrait of a lady's decadence

Veil secrets masked in opulence

Young lad tucked in vain display

Peeking from her red dress

Trim and frills brighten

A very lost

Betrayal (Acrostic)

I chose the word betrayal to create a unique and abstract short story. I was very creative and organic in writing this piece, and realized it didn't quite fit the rules. I hope you enjoyed my twist to the challenge. Other Acrostic poets can be found here.

Steam and sweat corralled the air into quiet submission. Drops of her kisses settled heavily on his brow. She felt so familiar in his fingertips, trembling in a passionate embrace for his love. Her rose lips lingered in desire to be kissed. Yet, an anxiousness rose from his chest, seizing his body and mind. Gripped with a paralyzing fear, he was awaiting his wife's hawkish eyes of condemnation.

Her scent lingered in the air and unfurled between the sheets. Her inquisitive breath mocked the other woman. She rumbled like a nightmare and extinguished his lust. The flame went out in her eyes. The rose shrivelled from his grasp as if sensing the woman that held him. Intertwining limbs relinquished their last pose, surrendering to a somber misery.

He groped about the folds of her garments as they quickly vanished. The wine in her veins grew dry like the desert. Youth took flight from the face of her countenance and roots of shame grew in her hair. The bed ejected the foreign woman, and she fled from his presence in horror.

He thrust an object into the mirror. Fragments of him shattered like loose change upon the floor. Church bells clamored in his hollow heart, giving birth to a progeny of lies. Their vows lay tattered beneath his feet like a moth with broken wings. Mirth emitted its last breath; night unravelled on a bitter cord.

The gold band on his finger devoured his flesh, and he swore the eyes of God were upon him. Symphonies of shame and sorrow strummed in his ears like violins. Silently, he arched his back in prayer. His eyes sunk low like a setting sun.

Was redemption possible, he thought, while sulfuric sin enveloped his nostrils? Silence sentenced his soul a cruel verdict: He wore the mask of betrayal and she the face of misery.

Night Watchers

I rise before the dawning of the morning, and cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word (Psalm 119: 147-148)

Night watchers
Bow in prayer
Heavenly communion
Universal glory
And starlit angels
Be thy guide
To the Lord of hosts

Reflections: A Star Is Born?

My mind travels to the classic black and white film A Star is Born, a movie that follows a young girl from her small-town world into a smashing success. Granted, I do not desire fame or fortune but I envision myself as that wide eyed, precocious girl, swooning on fantasies and drunk with hope. Sometimes, I am peeking from my window (or computer screen) for the next big thing, eagerly awaiting destiny like the horizon embracing the sun. But it doesn't come. My destiny lags behind on the clock of my world. Dreary weather paints my canvas with rain tapping against my mind. A star is born everyday, I remind myself. But the star in me flickers dimly and I run like the wind endlessly chasing dreams.

Sky Watch: Fly Home

Here are some photos of birds taking a swim in the park, and one taking flight in the sky. I imagined them preparing for the journey south. You can click the photos to enlarge.

Simply Snickers: Wandering Mind

This week's Simply Snicker's Challenge uses the words reflect, refresh, and resound. The accompanying painting is Portrait of Felix Feneon by Paul Signac. Here is my take using the pantoum style.

Reflections of a wandering mind
Zig Zagging along just fine
Shapes stimulate the eyes
Stirring visions of the mind

Zig Zagging along just fine
Strolling with a tune in his spine
Stirring visions of the mind
Resound like sumptuous wine

Strolling with a tune in his spine
Melodious fever rose from his feet
Resounding like sumptuous wine
He dipped in sunlight’s golden treat

Melodious fever rose from his feet
Sky patterns quell the blue like sheets
He dipped in sunlight’s golden treat
And swore the whistling winds said tweet

Sky patterns quell the blue like sheets
Refreshing the spirit, mind, and heart
And swore the whistling winds said tweet
Walk lightly till his fears did part

Departed (O.S.I.)

This week's O.S.I. prompt uses the word departed.

Departing laughter
Shivering from lovers' lips
Hands eternally wrenched
From tomorrow's face
Absence grown fonder
By days lengthening
On memory's canvas
Distance grows like weeds
In neglected gardens
Midnight ink in glory
Ushers diamond skies
Lighting souls
Departing on journeys home

Crowning Year

You visit the earth and water it, You greatly enrich it; the river of God is full of water; You provide their grain, for so You have prepared it...You crown the year with Your goodness, and Your paths drip with abundance (Psalm 65: 9, 11).

Crowning year
Reign on earth
In the splendor
Wisdom
Love
And glory
Of Him above

Pumpkin Art

Pumpkin season is winding down but I wanted to share some cool photos from an event I attended a few weeks back. The event is called Blaze, a lit up design of carved pumpkins in a myriad of shapes. It's amazing what artists can design with pumpkins as their canvas. You can click to enlarge the photos. Enjoy!!!
