Hi all,
This poem is written for O.S.I. The theme this week is respect. I felt inspired to write a poem that expresses inner strength and self esteem.
These things torn in two
Thank yous were missed and few
Friendship stayed away for a while
And the heavens were somber and blue
Love grew distant and dissipated
Time became a silent prison
Destiny’s smile slowly waned
Only self respect remained
When tomorrow unclenches her hand
And morning smiles in sweet surprise
Lift the head and let the rain in
Prayer is always sweeter in sunrise
Light always gives greater joy
As strength extends both hands
Respect what God has given and will give
Life will release its gifts and promise

This is a nice take on the prompt - I particularly like "When tomorrow unclenches her hand" :)
This is a great piece of poetry! Truly embodies the inner strength you wanted to express...
This piece boldly announces self-respect, as well as the ability to move beyond disappointment and into the future, better prepared to face new challenges.
Respect and humility are best friends in this one!
I enjoyed your thoughts today on respect- great lines..seems that's how it is at times huh! Anyway, wishing you a wonderful week-
You're right; respect for others begins with the self. Well done. I, too, was impressed by the "clench" line.
as long as self-respect remains intact, there's nothing to worry about ;-)
very well...wise words!
Hey WG,
You have written a wonderful piece on how to survive. well done!!:p
Hi W.G. ~~ Things got pretty much gloom and doom in the first verse. It all started in earnest with "yours were missed and few."
Then, Viola! Tomorrow comes a new and brighter day!
