Childhood (Haiku)

Hi all,

I am happy to share a pair of haikus for Haiku Heights. The theme is childhood.

I am running wild
Without direction chasing
Shadows through the green

And drink in the sky
As a river guides me to
Footprints of my youth

O.S.I.: Vital

Hello all,

This Sunday evening I am happy to write a new poem for O.S.I., and this week's theme is vital.

Beautiful
First sun
Feeling the breeze
Palms open to sky
Rising up to catch
An eternal blessing

Today feels new
I can sense in your eyes
Vitality and joy
Youth renewed
So I open the gates
And let faith
Send you back
To me

Wrong (O.S.I.)

Hi all,

I have been away from O.S.I. so I am happy to share a creative poem with all of you.

Right was calling me sweetly
In the direction of its voice
Though I could not perceive its face
In a sea of shouts and noise

Lo I took the stairs
And there the sun gazed down on me
Through a smiling corner window
Yet the voice grew fainter
Calling me ever sweetly

My youth frayed like a scarf
Taking direction west and east
And I looking back
Could not retrace my path
Where did I go wrong

Through Nature's Eyes (Pt I)

Hi all,

I am doing something a little different diving into a new short story. I hope you enjoy my latest work and stay tuned!!

Mel exposed herself in the winter air. At first, it was a naked arm dangling from her wool pajamas. It was turning raw pink then blue. She felt a streak of defiance. Her mother was not there to scold her. They were the sort of rebellious streaks most people would scoff at: mismatched socks; the left side was accustomed to polka dots and the right preferred bold stripes. Then, she graduated to bare feet. Her toes were not adverse to a sticky dorm room. She was proud of the messes left over from breakfast. She liked soggy corn puffs and milk in a pool she could step in. She wouldn’t want her mother to see her with a raccoon nest for hair, where remnants of dinner, a pencil, and notes from class had slept together and cooed.

Her roommate thought she was nuts, sporting nothing except bare legs and her boyfriend’s oversize hoodie. Wish I had a hoodie to slide in, Mel thought. Boys aren’t in season, ripe on trees, or falling from the sky.

A snowflake smiled at her through the window. Then, a pair of long pink ears tapped against her window.....

A Fool's Paradise (O.S.I.)

Hi all,

I've written the following poem for O.S.I. The inspiring theme this week is A Fool's Paradise:

Youth is a paradise
Of acquaintances and friends
Of rendezvous and romance
Of parties and mirth
Of beauty and thrill

Youth is a paradise
For two
Of sunrise and passion
Of spring and bloom
Of nakedness and games
Of thrills and dates

Youth is a paradise
Of fools
Of shameless lies
Of betrayals
Of doom
Of fights
Of chase
Of risk
Of flight

While age
At last
A sanctuary
An island
Of peace
From youth

Whispers Of A Girl

Hi all,

This is a poem I discovered in my notebook a few months back. I'm happy to share with all of you. Have a blessed and happy weekend:

Whispers
Of the girl
I used to be
With quiet eyes
Wishful knowing
Time to grow
My inner longing
Life is slow
Dreams are drowning

Whispers of the girl
I used to be
Fear’s the only monster
I’ll be leaving
I am growing
Determined rowing
To my isles of destiny

Lost Youth

Hi bloggers,

Here is a story for Thursday's Tales. They have already posted a new tale for this week, but I was inspired to write about the photo above. The artwork is by IzNoGood.

Lauren had taken an unusual route through the forest. Her feet were guided by an invisible compass. Her mind was swimming with the events of that afternoon. She had pressing deadlines at her job and not much time to sit and think. Yet, the open air called her. The sky swirled and seemed vast. There was a message from the universe, she thought. Life was more than meetings and emails.

Lauren gasped when she spotted a young girl in the woods. The girl stood still without emotion. She looked quite old fashioned in a frilly dress. Her long curls and skin were deprived of sunlight. The brim of her hat hung low and swallowed her face.

The girl didn't flinch, and Lauren perceived she was carved in stone. Suddenly, she heard the cry of the girl. Lauren inched closer towards her.

"Are you lost little girl," Lauren asked her. At first, the girl didn't answer but lifted her head. Her face was almost gray, but her eyes were bluer than the sky.

"You've only noticed me today," the child answered. "But I have chased you my whole life. Won't you come and play?" Lauren was confused by the child's response. She couldn't possibly know her.

"I'm sorry but I don't believe we've met," Lauren began. "I have so much to do today. Come back with me and I'll phone your parents." The girl shrank from her like a shadow. Her blue eyes grew dim like night.

"I wish you could remember," the girl sobbed. She started to run like the wind and vanished beyond the trees. Only her hat remained and laid softly on the earth.

Puzzled, Lauren lifted her hat off the ground. She soon forgot the encounter and returned to her world of work and deadlines. She did not recognize the girl of her youth but noticed a shadow growing in her place.
