Disappearing Lips

Where had her lips gone?
She discovered one afternoon
Glancing through a blue mirror
A hole where her lips once accompanied
Round apple cheeks

Perhaps it crawled from her bedside
And fluttered like a butterfly
Into the breeze
Giving herself to the whimsy
Of chance and time

Perhaps it drifted to a lover’s window
Reliving contact soft as dough
Finding old habits hard to swallow
Returning to the hollow between her cheeks
Exhaling heat, releasing the wind
