Poem in Your Pocket

Hi bloggers,

Today is Poem in Your Pocket Day!! Here's a poem to celebrate the occasion. If you feel inspired, write a poem : )

My crumpling heart
Melting like marshmallows
Pink and easy
A delicate thing
Hung on romance
A daydream perchance
Easy to fold
Pockets of love
Sweet, papery origami
Soft, pink petals
My crumpling heart
Poems kiss freely

Moonlight Drive

Hi Bloggers,

Leo introduced me to a new meme at Thursday's Tales. I am writing a tale inspired by the photo above by artist Dennis B. This is an abbreviated version of my short story. Thankfully I sampled Leo's so I shortened mine's a bit :)

The moon was curling low, dipping behind a tree. The dark shadows leapt out at them. Red climbed the black limbs of the tree, her long coat blowing in the wind. Her cloak was bright like strawberries and spread across the darkness like jam.

Suddenly, they heard cackling in the distance and the howl of a wolf. They were blinded by a pair of lights. A car accelerated in their direction, coughing up dirt in the night air. A wolf in dark shades and an Elvis hairdo stepped out of the convertible.

“Would you ladies care to accompany me on a drive,” he asked. He dropped his shades low, and they were swooning on his yellow eyes.

"What a mysterious wolf," Red laughed. "Hey there handsome. We'll go for a drive," and they all sped away. They rode for hours, not noticing the moon drifting and the sky sporting black shades. They all howled and cackled at the moon until their lungs grew dry. The wolf yawned and his yawning was contagious. Soon Red and her friend drifted to sleep.

Literature

Tis a beautiful thing
Your pages ruffling at me
The new smell of books
Wafting in my nose
And I sink
Melting on syllables and verse
Daydreaming in black ink
Inviting colors
Canary yellow
Or brick red
Sitting on my bed
I am wed to you
Bound to hardcover
To the last page
You are jealous
Of books on shelves
But I am a lover of literature

Sky Watch: Horses

Hi bloggers,

Here are a few photos from a recent visit in Central Park. The horses were out to play!!

Swaying with a trot
City horns dare not honk
Rush hour beneath the hooves
A bit of country in the city

Not Your Cup of Tea

(Take 1)
I am not your cup of tea
She said
I'm too dark, too light
I taste bitter
And harsh
I bite
I run my course
Through your veins
Incite indigestion
Did I mention I'm insane?
She stirs her cup twice
I'll take two lumps

(Take 2)
She was easy to drink
Spilling over in a blue rimmed cup
She was dark and hot
Her breath wafting up
He took a sip, then frowned
He wasn't thirsty

O.S.I.: Mask

This week's O.S.I. prompt is mask. I used the poetic form Rondelet in this piece.

Her moon shaped mask
Illuminates in the night sky
Her moon shaped mask
Falls to the earth and her skin wanes
A life once lived in subtle lies
Unravels from the hands which tie
Her moon shaped mask

Peel off the mask
Like petals torn in darkened skies
Peel off the mask
Her vision cascading like rain
Secrets flutter and shadows fly
Naked face mirrors her own lies
Peel off the mask

Sitting Duck (Acrostic)

She's an
Island between
Two
Towering men
Ingesting
Naked lies
Guns

Drawn
Under her
Cheek
Kissing steel

O.S.I.: Vicarious

Hi bloggers,

This week's O.S.I. prompt is vicarious.

Freedom from gravity
Height redefined
Enraptured with flight
A dot along the skyline
Tight roping between buildings
Space walking on earth's ceiling
In orbit, rounding the sun
Her imagination whirled and spun
Testing waters didn't jive
She'd take a dive and live vicarious

Peace

Vigilant prayers of peace
Light and airy as the breeze
A sweetened note of laughter
The hands of love caressing
Softness settling in the mind
The cool air whispering a song
Dawn sprinting in the darkness
A sweeping rainbow in the sky
Dew drops resting on the leaves
A gentle touch against the skin
Words which kiss the heart
An unexpected gift
Suspends our tears and fears
The storm shall cease
In the arms of peace

Hi bloggers,

This month's Acrostic Only prompts feature slang words. So drop by and try a couple of them!

Resting in

Her Controversy

She did it for herself
Performed it in her mind
Conceived her own audience
Eyes widened by surprise
She confided in the smallest part of her
Tucked it inside
Waltzing with a boldness
She screamed her lines
Her black dress became a shadow
Beneath her feet, it laid
Brown toes wriggled free
Only the darkness covered her
The play called for nakedness
Who was she to complain
This is an eighth grade play
Her teacher shouted
She ignored her
Red curtains rise
She holds a yellow rose
Her scented sun
She plucked them slowly
On the cold stage
The brown glow of her body in spotlight
Shivering in glee
The audience gasped in horror
"This is blasphemy!"
Tears welled up in shame
She wondered what was art

His Appearance

I hope you all have a blessed Easter

Hark ye thirsty and hungered
Ye wearied and bruised
The bones which cease to rise
Wakes and rises once more
The heart which wanders
Now races onward
At His appearance
Shall we sleep and wait
Or gather at His gate
For a glimpse of glory

National Poetry Month

Dear bloggers,

This month is National Poetry Month. Some bloggers are dedicating an entire month to poetic posts. Also, April 29th is Poem in Your Pocket Day. This will be a very creative and fun month. I hope you all enjoy some of the festivities.

He said goodbye to himself in the morning
Mostly for his own amusement
A roguish smile parting pearly whites
Quick inspection with his tongue
Ruffling his dark hair
His fingers running against his brow

It was the world that greeted him
The sun lit like romantic lips
Most evenings, he was alone
He'd sit and drift
Wind cascading upon his knees
A summer of reveries
He was surrounded by dreamers
A tipsy twinkle in his eye
Burning in the bulb of a firefly

His shadow turns to greet her glove
Though strangers, she's quick to give her love
They slip away into a fantasy
Before he wakes from daydreams
