The Rainbow

Hi Sky Watchers,

Mother Nature wrought torrential rain, wind, and storms, but the sky let up and a rainbow was visible above. This is my first rainbow sighting! I hope you enjoy the view.

Silver Dime Makes A Fine River

Hi all,

The following is a recent short story I've written. I hope you enjoy!

The pride of the world could fit on a dime. She was convinced that if she squinted her eyes, she’d see tiny people skating on silver. The dime became her soul possession. She pressed it close to her heart and rubbed away the tarnish with her kisses. It swam in the cavernous depths of her pockets.

She was impoverished by circumstance but not in her mind. Her coat, withered by time and loss, hinted of her former glory. Her coat of colors, wine and rust, housed her sophisticated walk. Her cheekbones sloped along bronze complimenting her jet black hair. Pedigree leered at the line of poverty. Old age was but a speck on the horizon.

She was often mistaken as an heiress. Her belly fattened on her looks and charm. She turned her heels on the fashion district, and they besought her sphere of divinity. They regarded the antique silver as a link to her glory. Perhaps she was a descendant of the silver president. She buzzed with all the warm thoughts of the city. Her impoverished celebrity became the sweetest piece of irony.

She swam deep in a river of silver and thought not of the cares of tomorrow. His eye is on the sparrow, she smiled. I must be His masterpiece.

Hello all,

I've written two haikus for this week's Haiku Heights. The theme is sacred.

Her sacred body
Prostrate at the gates of God
Behold masterpiece

Lifting eyes above
Heaven and earth pass with time
By the shores of love

Still (Acrostic)

Hi bloggers,

This poem is written for Acrostic Only.

Salt of her tears
Trickle on cold earth

Irrational thought, budding action
Light pause in space
Lay in the womb

Sky Watch: The Seasons

Hi Skywatchers,

The seasons are changing, ushering in fall. The sky is blushing warm colors like the leaves. A sight to behold. Peeking beyond the sky, what lies ahead: mild pleasant days or snowmageddon?

OSI: Joie de vivre

Hi bloggers,

This week's OSI prompt is the French phrase Joie de vivre (the joy of living).

Smile wide as the universe
Breathe deep into tomorrow
Hear the pattering heart echo
Taste the waters and swallow
From the generous wells of sky
Feel the richness of earth
Our senses stirred, invigorated
As the seasons pass us by
In succession they revive
Mirth and joy, lively jives
Words release a song
Budding ears are loved
Joie de vivre!

Thursday Tale: Old Friends

Hi bloggers,

This story is written for Thursday Tales.

Leanne was a sight to behold in her pink, frilly tutu. Uncle fancied her with cowgirl boots and a wide brim hat. Her eyes swam in blue skies along fresh, green meadows.

“She’s a real country gal,” we laughed, as she modeled her new clothes.

The country air buoyed Leanne’s spirit. At home, she was the shy girl with dark eyes. But visits to Uncle’s farm sparked a quiet brilliance in her. In the wind, we watched her soar with invisible wings.

“I’ve got one more surprise for you Leanne,” Uncle jested with a jovial smile. “How bout it ole’ girl. Let’s go have a look.” Her deep, brown eyes leapt up in wonder as we walked alongside her. A large, chestnut horse was visible beyond a wooden fence. Leanne looked up with tears in her eyes.

“For me,” she asked softly. She tottered slowly towards the fence, her arms stretching in the wind. Her mind had already embraced the horse, stroked its wide back, and laid against warm chestnut. But the horse barely raised its head to look at her. She trotted slowly in the opposite direction.

“Horsey,” Leanne wailed. Shakily, she climbed the fence, shrieking at the top of her lungs. No one could reach Leanne before she tumbled into the horse’s field. She sobbed uncontrollably in the grass. Her fingers tugged mercilessly at her dress and tears stung her cheeks.

Instinctively, the horse galloped towards Leanne. Her hooves thundered in a rapturous trot. Uncle cautiously laid down his hat and stooped beside her.

The horse dropped her brown neck low swinging her dark mane. Leanne smiled and rested her hand against its nose. Their eyes met in quiet contemplation greeting as old friends frequenting time and space.

Sugar Licking Lilly

Hail Ms. Sugar Licking Lilly
She's a sweet tooth for gingerbread men
Eyes swimming in ice cream
Devouring whole a jar of strawberry jam

She drinks black coffee or vanilla bean
Stirring in chocolate bars and licorice
Bathes in ice water and sweetened tea
Pleasing herself with jars of jelly beans and jolly ranchers

Proud nightingale of the Easter Parade
Goddess of sugar flowers and cadbury eggs
Mountain of sweetness on display
She's Willy Wonka's madame, Sugar Licking Lilly

Sky Watch Friday: September

Hi skywatchers,

This photo was taken just before sunrise. The sky is growing light with shades of blue and pink.

The presence of sun
Stretches against our building
Warm pink wrapped in sky
Delights the eyes

The Passing (O.S.I.)

Hi bloggers,

This week's O.S.I prompt is The Passing. I used the poetic form quatern for this piece.

Light smiles...sunset’s lips are passing
Swept in summer’s dream, lovers gaze
The wind gives a generous swing
Lifting hearts when the sun pours in

Rise and stretch on tomorrow’s back
Light smiles...sunset’s lips are passing
Soak in the clouds, dew swept in blue

The ease of life served on a spoon

Love is kindled in nature’s arms
Heat and air rising with the tides
Light smiles...sunset’s lips are passing
Vivid colors peek-a-boo skies

Wrapped in the cloak of starry night
Eyes beheld the lone shooting star
Lovers weary rest their eyes above
Light smiles...sunset’s lips are passing

All of Me

All of me
In your outstretched arms
All of me
In the gaze of moon and stars
All of me
Wrapped in your silhouette
All of me
In sultry pirouettes
All of me
In your dreamy eyes
All of me
In the sun kissed skies
All of me
Against your lips
All of me
In lungful dips
A present of the heart
All of me

Choices (O.S.I.)

Hi all,

The theme for this week's O.S.I. prompt is choices.

I’d heed not to gravity
The anchor that weighs me
And take no thought of time
The internal clock that wakes me
I care not for sweeten words
Idle promises swim down a creek
My choice is sure and firm
In the quiet assurance of destiny

Quiet Glory

All is quiet
A hush lulls the wind
Glory and wisdom
Peace and understanding
Ears deciphering hymns
Prayers in flight like shooting stars
Interrupted only by chirping crickets
Dim brilliance of silence
Dreams sweet in our minds
Thoughts dormant on our lips
Mindful of earth and time
The spirit is at rest
In the horizon, God’s glory shines

Tree of Love

Hi bloggers,
The following is posted for Thursday Tales. The accompanying image is given by MaNik.

She wore canary yellow in the silver fog, the folds of her dress dancing like a flame. She leaned her body over the edge of the bridge. A school of fish glimmered past her in a swirl of blues and greens.

She hailed an ultimatum, last night, by telephone. The chord nearly ripped out of the wall. Her tears were loose and kissed her cheeks where he should have been.
She begged him not to go on this trip. She wished he postponed his rendezvous and embrace her one last time. His voice was hollow and dead through the receiver. The earth turned over in her mind.

She insisted they meet at the bridge. At dawn, she rose with vigilant resolve. Her body trembled in the fragile air. But one glimpse of him would assuage all her fears. He couldn't possibly travel without bidding her ado.

The fog grew enormous pressing her into a strange embrace. She fantasized his hands race against her skin and seize her with a kiss. Unyielding to the bitter cold, she planted her feet as roots.

In the velvet night air, the wind cried out, “Your hour is nearly spent. You shall surely die if you remain here. But we shall grant you one wish.”

Tearfully, she contemplated her fate. “I ask for nothing except a tree be planted in my place. May it bring remembrance to the one I love.”

By morning, a tiny tree sprouted in a woman’s frame. The tree grew sturdy and strong adorned in yellow leaves. And all who passed by declared her the Tree of Love.
