OSI: Elusive (Short Story)

This week's O.S.I. Prompt uses the word elusive. Here is my take on the word:
The remembrance of her in the dark haunted him. How the moon played tricks on his eyes, disguising shadows to behave like her. A darkened silhouette lay next to him in the bed, but it was not her. Cursing the darkness of her elusive spirit, he tore the sheets in every direction but could not find her. The laughing wind whistled through a crack in the window. The curtains twirled like the hem of her skirt. Did she escape through the window? He wept bitterly at the memory of her. The cry of an infant babe awoke him from the nightmare. He sought her elusive shadow. She was gone.

Spiritual Beauty

Eyelids deep with wisdom
Lashes dipped in prayer
Lips caressing agape love
Hair adorned in God's glory

Lashes dipped in prayer
Joy is the rouge of her cheeks
Hair adorned in God's glory
Words lingering like the breeze

Joy is the rouge of her cheeks
Honor and praise ripen in breath
Words lingering like the breeze
Eyes exude a heavenly depth

Honor and praise ripen in breath
Life is the nectar of her blood
Eyes exude a heavenly depth
Daily her God blesses her soul

Life is the nectar of her blood
Peace is her adorning raiment
Daily her God blesses her soul
Her feet glistens in the road of faith

Peace is her adorning raiment
Body swimming in virtue's river
Her feet glistens in the road of faith
Prayer is her midnight companion

Body swimming in virtue's river
Glory bathes her like the sun
Prayer is her midnight's companion
Visions quicken her legs to run
She is a spiritual beauty

O.S.I.: Conquer

This week's O.S.I. prompt is conquer. Here is my impression of the word.

Consumed but not devoured
Tempted but not broken
Bruised but not destroyed
Abandoned but not lost
Limp but never lifeless
Fallen but never lame
Accused but never condemned
Penniless but never poor
Weak but never faint
Between but never backward
Distant but never far
Foreign yet set apart
Unknown yet gifted
Wanderers yet destined
Forsaken yet forgivers
Despised yet esteemed
Oppressed yet conquerors

The capacity to dwell
In a darkened cocoon
Blanketed in an unwanted womb
The world laughs excitedly
Outside these walls
Impatient caterpillar
Wills his wings to grow
But nature hums
Be patient my love
He shakes violently
Tears drop like dew
On his outer shell
His joys are few
Blue notes he sings
Till spring breaks the womb

Sky Watch Friday: Hudson Hues

Here are some more photos overlooking the Hudson on my visit last month. The weather tonight is quite gloomy and rainy so I am happy to have the old photo mementos.

Hudson hues
Blanketed blues
Dreamers lose themselves
In the shimmering dew
Dipping in the eve
The waves seduce you

Last week, I received a rejection letter for a poem I submitted for a poetry contest. It was entitled City Life. Rejection is a tough thing to swallow, but I will try to take something positive from this.

Great city rafters
Perpendicular lines as guides
Melodious car horns
Distinguishable then receding
The gaze of cold city folks
Embracing dead winter's embers
The jive of salacious pubs
Drunken humor spinning rivers
Sky scrapers joust like colossal gods
Beneath ink black heavens
Sullen alleys mouth agape
Glittering moon steps float on pavement
Rustic gutters fusing with heat
Sewers belching burlesque prose
Lithe cats scurry like shadows
Yellow eyes suspended in crescent love
Street lamps roam stone pavement
In desolate silence like urchins
Time exhales eternal winds
Resurrecting trash, scrap, and litter
Inconspicuous trench coats assails the night
Trailing gun smoke spits in fright
Listless scarlet sets her sirens
Seductively calling her lover's eyelid
Intimations tremble on subway's lane
Screeching, jolting through the tunnel’s maze

Sky Watch Friday: Apple Picking

These sky watch photos were taken during last week's apple picking trip. I did more picture taking and sky watching than picking apples. Luckily my friends picked up the slack. : )

Ripe and round... Red apples... Dangle deliciously...In blue kissed skies

O.S.I: Descent

This week's O.S.I's theme is Descent. This word conjured up a daring adventure and inspired me to write this piece.

Long, winding
Calls curious hearts
Down the
Staircase winding
Shadows gliding
In hats and halos
Hearts writhing
In rib cages
As distant
Fearless souls
Brave the descent

Her Smile (Short Story)

Her smile bordered his consciousness like a bridge suspended in thin air. Each step he took, the ground beneath him vanished. The old world hung like an ugly canvas, the paint peeled like dead petals in his fingers.

His eyes lassoed the golden image before him. Her smile was sliced in pieces like the sun and tasted like citrus against his lips. Now his limbs were tangling like roots and gravitating to the earth. The ground beneath him turned to stone, swallowing his toes, and his mind became a prisoner of the stone fortress.

Still, her smiled breathed hope into his soul and quickened every dead thing in its presence. The revelation throttled him with every step. Now his limbs danced joyously, sensing his desires were kissable and touchable. Her lips blossomed like a rose and he dipped into the glory of her love.

Acrostic Only: October

For this month's Acrostic Only challenge I chose the words Baseball, Faith, and Star Gazing.

Big leaguers
Boisterous cheers
A victorious
Lap surging
Like lightening

Immersed in
Tranquil glories on
His heavenly hem

Souls seek
Truths universal
Aglow of
Night angels
Grant blessings
