A Sign of Spring

Spring in my bones
In the roots beneath my toes
In the air
The bloom of colorful beings
Leaping through the trees
A sign of spring

Art & Poetry

Hi all,

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending an art exhibit in the city. Art and poetry coalesce so nicely together and inspired my latest piece.

Give me art
Against white walls
Give me the creative itch
The splendor of canvas meeting paint
Stone and wood carved magically
Art transforming into worlds for eyes
Give me the rawness
The endless nights
Of making lovely art

Sunset (O.S.I.)

Hi all,

I am writing a poem for O.S.I. and the theme this week is sunset. A very inspiring subject!

Sunset begets her daughters
Amarillo, marigold, and bronze
Calls forth her children
Azure, sapphire, indigo
Gathering to her side
Naranja, peach, tangerine
Song in their colors
Lavender, amethyst, dusk
A gift together
All her children
Beaming, pregnant sun

B & W With A Splash of Color

Hi Skywatchers,

Here is a view of the old world in black and white. I have stepped into another time and place. The old world has a million stories to tell. I lean back and listen.

Then, a splash of color makes everything new and inviting. The new world dazzles me in art and splendor. I recognize friends who speak the same language. I am finally home.

Happy Sky Watch!!

Perfect Shade of Yellow

Hi all,

This is a fresh poem I am eager to share with you.

I am that perfect shade of yellow
Dewdrops from the sun above
I am the yellow of tulips
Flirting in the spring
I am the yellow summertime
Whipping against your knees
I am the butterfly poemed in yellow
Wrapped in a cocoon of bliss
I am the yellow egg that hisses
I am the yellow squeezed from oranges
I am that arching sun that greets you
And sets my head to meet you
I am befriending, yellow, and meek

Sky & Poetry

Hi Skywatchers,

I am combining my sky watch post with my love for poetry. Today is Poem In Your Pocket Day. Here are my creative thoughts.

The sky is the color of storm glass
I can fold in my pockets
Stretch, wiggle, and giggle
This world I call imagination

Color Me June

Hi all,

I discovered an earlier piece of writing among my school work. This short story is entitled Color Me June. I wrote this back in 2005. I enjoyed reading this colorful work on a rainy, March day. Hope you enjoy it as well.

It must be June. Colorful, colorful June. Jesse wrapped between her mother’s legs as she braids her hair piece by piece. Tender locks set in place. Mama finishes and pats her head. Away she goes fluttering like a butterfly and swaying to the beat.

She steps left, steps right. Oh she is a sight to see like the dame dancing in the cool lights of a club, wrapped tightly in her man’s arms. He’s got a suit on like neon lights, beads of sweat on his face. They dance real close, so close that their breath becomes one in that stagnant room. Her dress is a red pepper red, so hot he wants to back away. But her curves have him begging for more.

She bends closer for a kiss. A kiss as bright and hot as her dress. Nearby, the patrons ogle. A little gray creeping in their hair and into their bones. But they remember the hot, steamy Junes of before. With every movement, her curves swing. With every gyration, his pulse quickens. Their lips lock as he moves his hands down like waves gliding over the ocean.

Somewhere June dances as May bows out. It waltzes off to its own curtain call. And colorful, colorful June with its red, green, orange, blue, and purple hues, sways back and forth to the saxophone.

Sky Story

Drowning in her sorrows, she gazed wearily into the sky’s face. She watched a mural of colors ripple, recede. The sadness of her heart melted when the sun touched down.

The world is beautiful when you gaze into the sky. Happy Sky Watch All!

Four Seasons

Blue winter's face
Icicles hanging like jewels
White clouds her raiment
Arctic air her perfume

Spring, she's turning green
Buds sprouting in her hair
Thick braids grow like trees
She's dressed in butterfly wings

Summer sun
Her face is red as love
She's bathed in barbecue and sweetened tea
Her summer dress blows hot in the breeze

Fall's camouflage
She sleeps beneath orange and brown leaves
Crisp, autumn air is intoxicating
She's lived the four seasons

OSI: Colors

This week's OSI Prompt is Colors. You can check out other beautiful poems by clicking on the link.

Awakening autumn breaths
Orange, yellow, and gold
On fallen leaves
And paints the bark
A deep mahogany

White clouds thicken
In a sapphire sky
Dipping in the glow
Of a tangerine sunset

Black outlines of birds
Suspended in midair
With feathers cascading
Like plum velvet

Brisk air with silver whips
Pinch pink and brown cheeks
Human shadows growing gray
In blue embers of winter

Red dusk of summertime
Rising like the phoenix
Trails the hem of sunset
Memories and feverish bursts
Ripen on an artist's canvas
