Blue (For O.S.I.)

This is my first attempt at O.S.I. Blue is my favorite color so I was drawn to this subject.

Blue is me
Cascading like rain
Blue stained
Blueberries
Bleeding on
Blue boots
Bouncing in
Blue puddles

Bubble baths
Splash blue
Against blue tiles
Blue dreams
Bloated bellies
Bursting with
Blueberry pies

Blue tongue
Blue tart
Blue gum
Blue lips
Sweet to kiss

Blue rippling
Reclining on seas
Blue hanging
In the firmament
Like a canopy

Blue casting a line
In blue tides
Gaping at the
Blue moon
Dipping his
Icy spoon

Blue world
Blue like my jeans
Worn at the knees
Blue like me

Writing in the Dark

To write with a degree of conviction, passion, and heart, is sometimes the most difficult thing to do. But it is the most necessary and important part of a writer's life.

In the darkness, in the middle of the night, when sleep fails me, I think of my life. I think of my legacy. I think on what I have done and what I have not done. I wonder on that final day, when I give my account to God, what will I say? What good things could I utter about my life? Since I was young, I feared missing God. I was afraid He would not accept me. I am afraid I've missed the mark. Day after day without end. So far away and so distant. Will I ever reach the shores of eternal life? What makes others so certain they will make it? When I see them, I am in awe. Perhaps God is with them.

I bow my head and pray for mercy each night. I have no assurance. I am not sure if I am swimming closer to the light or drowning in darkness. This terrifies me as I try to sleep. There is little sleep when I lay in judgment of myself. And yet, the hope that He still loves me, wills me evermore. And I am blessed to see the sunrise again. The daylight melts away all darkness. The opportunity to start anew is the greatest gift. New life begins each morning.

Homeless

In the evenings
And mornings
If you've seen me
Bent low
To the ground
Trembling
With a scowl
Darkness settling now
Whites of my eyes
Gleaming
Pleading
For the sun to come

Undone
Are yesterday's knots
They hold much clout
But my soul
Is cast in doubt

In the evenings
And mornings
I mutter stories
And untold glories
But they are deaf
Bereft of love
Hope vanquished
On the wings of a dove

The street's my bed
I bow my head
With great assurance
I live
Money's not God

Slow Sundays

Slow Sundays
When the crown of the sun
Rouses from the hills
But never stirs
And little ones play
Beneath their beds
Spiritual souls
Bow their heads
In blessed pews
And birds sink deep
Upon their nest
To warm their eggs
Mama kneads the dough
And kisses her bread
While papa rests upon the radio
Absorbed in his team instead
Quiet and empty
The desolate road fades
Darkness settles over Sunday
The bustle of life rushes in again

Faith

The other day my eyes wandered on the scripture: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It provided much needed inspiration for my daily tasks and shaped my latest poem.

Ink black is the sky
But my eyes flicker
Towards the horizon
The burgeoning flame of hope
Rising like the morning star
And faith cradling me
From the precipice below
Despairs closing eye
A feverish sigh
Steadily climbing upward
Till the heavenly stars
Twinkle in my hair
From above all sorrows melt
The velvet coat of night
Lightens and heightens its gaze
Upon heavenly glory

Now faith is the substance
Of things hoped for
Brimming and overflowing
From the spirit
Cascading like a waterfall
Deepening wells of hope
Quenches the thirst of many
Prayers crying out
Grasping on the tails of faith

Carmen

This poem is inspired by the beautiful and incomparable Dorothy Dandridge for her performance in Carmen. I remember seeing this film and falling in love with the story line. Also, I'd like to add that TCM is doing a full month featuring Hollywood stars, which is such a treat if you'd like to watch a classic movie.

Red dress
Smouldering
Like hot lava
Saucy twang
Singes the tongue
Flames dancing
Rising in your lungs
Sirens scrawl
The loveliest song
Pulsing pomegranate
Or the tartiest berry
Juices cajoling
Rounding like cherries
Scintillating angles
The line in her dress
Induces palpatating
Renditions
Intense passions
Feeding insatiable desires
Fires new glances
And romances
Jealousy peaks from its bed
Plotting demise
Crushing the rose by its head

Champion

Yesterday he was down
Crushed into the earth like garbage
Helpless like a moth on pavement
Devoured like a carcass in hot sun
Sprawled out cold like a boxer
But he remembered the words
He that shall endure to the end
The same shall be saved
It echoed till the earth shook
Rising, hot air filled his lungs
God gave him life again
Heart beating like an intense drum,
The enemy squared back
Like the champion
He glared back with maddening eyes
Fists growing like great melons
His blow dusted the enemy on the ropes
With arms floating triumphantly in the air
Prayers as thick as wind carried him home

Good News

After months of searching for a new forum to write and broaden my horizon, I am happy to announce that my literary book review was published at Attribute Magazine. I am so happy for the opportunity and hope this is the start of many wonderful things to come. You can check out the article here if interested. Thanks for everyone's continued support and kindness on this site.
